Tuesday Ten: An Award Ten things you might not know about me

Made my day to find out that I was awarded the "Kreativ Blogger" award from  fellow Haligonians over at ~Third~Street~Studio~.  Third Street Handcrafters,  are two sisters who create the most adorable dolls.  Please stop by their Etsy Store and check out their handmade creations.  Thank you for the honours Third Street Studio!

Since this is not my first time receiving this particular award, I am not going to follow all the rules listed.  I have decided to pass this award on to everyone who stops by and reads this blog post; just grab the button and follow the rules listed above.  And instead of "7 things about me", I am going to list 10 things because I am posting this as my Tuesday Ten this week.

So without further adieu...
Here are Ten things you might not know about me:

1. I love, love, love the smell of dirt.
2. I've never watched Star Wars the entire way through.
3. I hate crunchy peanut butter.
4. Twilight, when the streetlights flicker on, is my favourite time of day.
5. I jump nearly out of my skin every time the phone rings after 9:00 PM.
6. I'm always waiting for the other shoe to drop.
7. I haven't felt inspired for a long time. I hope that changes soon.
8. I'm tattooed.
9. I have to force myself through my front door some days.
10. I read the Bible, but I'm not religious.

Just a quick note

Ever had one of those days where you just sit around the house all day, puttering around doing nothing in particular? Well I just did.

It's early evening now, and I only have a few hours before I drag my ass to the comfort of my cozy bed, and I've accomplished absolutely nothing today. Hubby is away on a man retreat this weekend. The "HE-Man Woman Haters Club", is meeting for the first time this season at their wilderness getaway deep in the forest. I've been left home alone, but I don't mind, I'm enjoying the time for some quiet contemplation.

So here I sit, sun is sinking into the horizon, casting such a pretty glow. Candles are lit and flicker softly, the room is silent. Silent, except for the tapping of my fingers on the keyboard. Silent, except for Pink Floyd playing in the background.

I have been meaning to get around to one thing. I received an award for my blog last week from the ever so inspirational Tina from Gal Friday. Thank you Tina! I love visiting  Gal Friday's blog to read her interesting musings about life and motherhood, photography, and other very readable topics. Please stop by her blog sometime this week and say hello.

Last week I was given some very special awards from some lovely people in the blog community who I consider to be great friends. I had planned to post these last week but due to a few "acts of god", I wasn't able to give this post the full attention it deserves.

Slightly Off-Center Achievements:

I started writing my blog last February as a web diary of sorts. At the time I was going though an illness that required me to have radiation treatments which left me radiotoxic and quarantined from my family for weeks at a time (no, I didn't glow or have special powers -- that is what my youngest thought...hehe!). Having a ton of time on my hands I started reading blogs and BB's for suggestions and advice from people who where going though the same illness that I was battling. I found so many fantastic blogs and communities on the web that inspired me to start a web journal of my own. At first I didn't know what direction I would go with my blog, all I knew was I didn't want my blog to dwell on my illness, treatments, appointment or doctors; I just wanted to journal about everyday life. I guess I started Slightly Off-Center as a distraction of sorts, a way to keep my mind off other issues I was dealing with...and it worked!

Mostly this blog is mishmash of topics from my daily life, but lately Slightly Off-Center has been heading in a more creative direction featuring some of my digital art and photography ... Jack of all trades - Master of none. But that is was is great about blogging and being part of a blog community; you don't have to be an experienced writer, photographer or artist to be appreciated - you can just be yourself.

I think any one of the blogs I follow would be great recipients for this award but today I am only going to choose two blogs this time.

Lemonade? ¢5 A Glass!

Two awards in the span of a week... what a great group of bloggie friends I have. This one, "When Life Gives You Lemons" award was passed along to me from such an inspirational gal, Movie. Her blog is called "Don't Worry it's Only a Movie", and you can find a link to her blog over in my distractions list (I do become distracted quite often over at her place). Thank you Movie!

How amazingly fitting for me to receive this award during such an awful week. I'm referring to the nasty fight with my Sister on Saturday. Angry words were said on both sides. Words and accusations that cut until I bled. Apologies -- I made an attempt to patch the rift.

As the days go by this week, I no longer want to dwell on the words said in anger or the original thing that I was hurt over. What I feel now is slight rejection, sadness, but mostly forgiveness. I just wish she would come to the same realization of how trite it all is, acknowledge my attempt at an apology, and offer the same in return. What I want more then anything is to repair the broken pieces so we can move on.

I think I will need to find a few lemon recipes -other then lemonade- to use up all the lemons that have piled up. Any suggestion?

Mom of the Year!

I'm so very lucky for all the wonderfully creative people who visit my blog daily. Your comments are always welcome and you all inspire me to become more creative. I always appreciate the awards that are given to me too, they make me feel extra special.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to receive this award from a very busy mommy blogger who I admire very much, Amber over at Mommy Mania. Thank you Amber!!

Like most awards - there is a little extra assignment that go along with the lovely honor:

My Answers:

1. Well my kids are older, 16, 19, 21 and are pretty independent now, but when I look back to when they were little I always felt bad when I had to discipline them by taking something they liked away for a period of time or sending them to their room. It didn't happen all that often, but it always made me feel horrible.

I was so excited to receive this award today. How in the world did I get this you ask? I got it from, Don't Worry it's Only a Movie, her blog is so fun to visit - I like browsing her library to get ideas for my next read. Thank you Movie!
