Some dreams are so vivid that you cannot ignore them

I had a dream last night, where I was in a beautiful vibrant green field, above me was a magnificent vermilion sky. I was all alone just taking in all the beauty that surrounded me; the wind was gently blowing and every now and again there would be the scent of vanilla in the air. I was happy and content. Then the sky turned blood red and the clouds sped in fast forward motion. The sweet smell of vanilla was replaced with stale, sour air. All the good feelings drained from me and were replaced with fear and panic. I woke up covered in sweat, my heart pounding.

How would you interpret this dream?

When I have those sorts of stormy dreams (mine are usually tornadoes) I think of them as some inner turmoil that's preventing me from feeling happy and content. I try to work with it and let it go so I can get back to the happy place!

It's a great dream - do you journal your dreams or work with them in other ways? I have a wonderful book called The Natural Artistry of Dreams with suggestions of how to work with dreams in creative ways to help interpret what they mean for you. This one sounds perfect for this approach!

OK, just read your post below this one. Sounds like the inner turmoil in spades!

Anxiety dream?

Anticipating a change and having deep concerns about the impact.
Perhaps a double check on what is going on around you will firm it up for you. The realism to the point of smell means to me that it is something you are very aware of and something fundamental.
The physical reaction means you take it serious, but do you need to take it that serious or is this overstated (by the dream) to make a point?

I really like Larry's analysis. Whatever it is, it seems to be trying to send a pretty strong message...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you're dreading something. Am I right?

Thanks for the encouraging words. The sun came out for a few minutes tonight, so that's another nicer change. :)

I think you are all on the right track.

Terri - I have been thinking about keeping a dream journal. Thanks for the recommendation Terri. I will surely check out that book.

Mama Zen - The anxiety I am feeling in real life could very well be spilling over into my subconscious.

Larry - Get out of my head! lol
I think your spot on with that interpretation. How did you do that?

Movie - I have had dreams where I could remember scents and also vibrant colour. They usually happen when I have something big going on in my life. I just have trouble fitting the pieces of the puzzle together when trying to interpret a dream.

WackyMummy - Dread. Worry. Fear. You name it, I'm feeling it!

I often feel a bit apprehensive about how much of my personal life I should expose here on my blog. Everything I post is %100 true but I only reveal a small portion of what is going on in my life. I would love to able to be totally open on here because I feel like I could gain so much from all your support, input and feedback. You are all truly a great group of people I consider to be my friends... thank you all!

You know there is always the invite only blog option...

:-)

I also tend to have multi-sensory dreams when there is a lot going on in my life.

I hope you are as well as can be and taking care of yourself.

Definitely sounds like you are worried about something, but I already knew that from your previous post...

I don't think I've ever had a dream that included smell, how interesting that you do!

My doctor calls those "night terrors" (panic attacks while you are sleeping) He says I'm working my troubles out in my sleep--hang in there, you'll get through it :)

oh i don't know. i'd guess (a) change, or (b) a loss of control...
