Preface to Autumn

Are you as sad as I am that summer has unofficially come to an end? These beautiful September days pass by much too fast don't they? There was a chill in the air as early morning greeted me, but it quickly warmed up as soon as the sun appeared above the horizon.  Another September day had begun and we will be treated to another beautiful day.

Driving along the coast Saturday, the warmth of the sun was cooled by the breezes drifting off the ocean .  We discovered a new favourite beach and will be returning some day soon, perhaps in the next few weeks.

Last night there was a distinct scent of Autumn in the air.  While walking the pup there were a few cicadas who were treating us to a song - we have hardly heard them all summer. I know moments like these are fleeting, as the warm days get shorter, and the cool nights become longer and longer.  I like to think that each and every season will bring new hopes, happiness and new adventures.
Happy Monday all!

Beauty at dusk

This evening I sat on the front steps and stared out into the dimming light letting my eyes adjust to the darkening sky. The coolness of a light breeze brushes over my skin, it feels a little like Fall and the hair on my bare arms rise as a shiver works its way up my back. I watch the bats swoop above my head and catch a glimpse of a couple of doves flying over the treetops.
The utter beauty of this evening enwraps me. I stand there quietly absorbing the beauty of the night that surrounds me, I somehow feel a big part of it, as if its been kind enough to let me in on some of its secrets, and I feel humbled as I stand there in the midsts of it all.
I walk back into my house and hubby smiles at me from the doorway, and I smile back.

Hope your enjoying your weekend,

Every year the family picks a destination and we hit the road for an adventure. This past weekend we all met up in Delaps Cove, Nova Scotia. My entire family, kids and girlfriend and boyfriends, my mom and dad, siblings and their families, all enjoy this special time we have together.

So Sick!

I wanted to post new puppy photos but Norwalk Virus has hit us pretty hard here, so they will have to wait 'till I'm feeling better.

Hope you are a well and remember to keep washing those hands, sanitize and stay away from hospitals or anyone with flu symptoms. This is one particularly nasty virus!

New Baby & Rainy Weekens

Friday evening there was a cold winter rain falling outside, composing a syncopated rhythm as it dripped silver from the wet, naked trees. I shrived involuntarily as I ran to the car; heading out to retrieve dinner for the family... pizza. We all eat dinner together then everyone slips away one by one to do their own thing; I am left to my own devices.  I curl up in the big chair with my laptop - my sanctuary.

Saturday we went into the hospital with a bag of goodies for my new baby niece, Morgan. Mommy and baby weren't in the room so we left them behind the goodies and headed out for dinner with Kensey. I was a little bummed, I really want to cuddle baby Morgan! Monday I think we shall visit them for sure :)

Sunday we spent the day inside the house just puttering about cleaning and doing odds and ends. Mostly I sat curled up in my big chair day-dreaming of a summer afternoon lazing on a sandy beach, listening to the waves crash, tasting the salty air...

This week I vow to only focus on the good, positive things in life... I wonder how that will go?

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Tell me a little about it :)

While Waiting for the Sandman

It's the early hour of the morning in this part of the world and yet I'm still awake. No doubt, Mr. Sandman skipped over me this night. Actually, it's been a few nights since his last visit...

Pretty soon the skies will be on fire as the sun starts to rise above the horizon, painted a kaleidoscope of colors outside my bedroom window; tinted with crimson, with gold, vermillion, with amber.  Soon it will be time for me to get on with the day ahead.

What are your plans for today?

On this perfect October day

Hubby and I decided we needed to grab a coffee before we headed out to my parents for Thanksgiving dinner. We just had enough time to take the scenic route home which turns the regular 5 minute drive into a 30 minute drive. The weather today was beautiful, we rolled the sunroof back, opened the car windows wide, pulled out of the Tims parking lot with Frankie Valli's "Oh What A Night" cranked way up on the stereo, then we hit the road. The wind blew our hair wildly about as we sang our hearts out (we may have gotten a strange look or two from people on the street). What? They don't drive around blasting Frankie Valli???

I don't think people understand what music is about anymore. I think most youngsters are hyper stimulated when it comes to music; it doesn't touch their heart and soul like it did to my generation. But I digress...(another post, for another time)

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal with the family. I'm so thankful to have my husband and children with me on this wonderful day. I'm also thankful for loving family and friends and for this life I cherish. Oh, and music. I am thankful for music and a voice to sing out as loud as I want.

Happy Thanksgiving, Columbus Day, Indigenous People's Day, Día de la Raza, Farmer's Day.  Heck... Happy Monday to everyone!

Weekend update - SIL's Wedding

Greetings, salutations and happy Monday! I hope you all had a grand weekend. Mine was pretty good despite being very busy with my SIL's wedding... Feeling a little tired still today, but happy the wedding ceremony and reception went perfect :) I think hubby and myself both looked smashing and our kids were beautiful as well.

In other related news, the Spanx I purchased to wear under my dress did exactly what the advertisement promised they would do; suck it all in and lift in all the essential places. I was beaming with all the wonderful compliments I was getting throughout the evening.  I recommend them to anyone who wishes to give their physique a little more curves and shape.  I also would like to recommend  Airbrush Legs by Sally Hansen for any gals who haven't had time to tan and wish to go bare legged.  It went on smooth and streak-less and lasted the entire day and night -- I used "Light Glow" because I am fairly fair skinned.

6.  Chopped my hair really short and changed the colour.
(Baby Sis and Me)

7.  Ordered some plants and flagstone for
landscaping projects this season.

Clean Up

Spent most of the weekend doing mostly nothing and cleaning up in between. I managed to get caught up on all the dirty laundry -woohoo! Also did some cleanup on my blog, e-mail and facebook. Facebook; deleted one years worth of accumulated private messages. E-Mail; Deleted pages and pages in my in-box. Blog; Read through all unpublished blog posts, decided what I should hold onto and what should be deleted.

Here is a list of  titles from potential posts that will forever be lost somewhere out there in cyberspace. Some of these post in draft were completely finished and unpublished because a) I thought they sucked b) Didn't have the guts to push the "publish" button:
  • With the lights out, it's less dangerous.
  • I want the stars and the moon. ( Is that too much to ask for?)
  • Touché!
  • Life's a bitch...
  • Death. Then What?
  • A Privilege to Know You
  • Within a Moment
  • Ambivalence
  • Something in my... Soul?
  • Between Awake and Sleep
  • Dropping Like Flies
I still have a few post in draft that I decided to keep for now.  Who knows... One day I may have the courage to click that "Publish" button.

We Wanted The Best! - We Got The Best!

The Hottest Band In The World...
KISS!!!
Saturday, me, my two girls and hubby went to see KISS preform here in Halifax. I have never in my life experienced anything like it in all my years. From the moment we got there at 4:30pm, the rain came down soaking us to the skin but nobody cared, we were all so pumped that we weren't letting a little rain spoil our time. We were packed in like sardines in a can, there were a few times panic set in when I realized I could not see an escape rout through the crowd of +50,000, but I managed to hold it all together and stand my ground for 6 hours, being shoved and pulled and even trampled by a couple intoxicated individuals.

The rain let up just in time for that black and silver curtain to come down...
I saw my hubby's eyes light up like a kid in a candy shop when the announcer started -- "YOU WANTED THE BEST!" -- he was a boy again, amazed and dazzled by the lights and pyro display. And I have to tell you, it was the best thing to be there right by his side watching him and my daughters electrified with shear delight. KISS rocked like no other band I have seen live. Fantastic show!!
