Road Trip!

Every year the family picks a destination and we hit the road for an adventure. This past weekend we all met up in Delaps Cove, Nova Scotia. My entire family, kids and girlfriend and boyfriends, my mom and dad, siblings and their families, all enjoy this special time we have together.

Taking a little break

I'm going to be very busy in the next few weeks so I have decided I will be taking a break from blogging.
Repairs around here have taken up my full attention - with painting, cleaning and packing, and a hundred other task that need to be completed before I move.
I will be checking in every now and again to read your blogs and see what you are all up to.

Spring Things

Today is such a beautifully sunny and warm(ish) spring day. I can feel the change. I am so looking forward to a fresh start and have been thinking about some lifestyle changes as well. Last May hubby and myself stopped smoking - still smoke free! This spring we have decided to see a nutritionist and join a gym, and I may even hire a trainer.

Here are a few other things I want to accomplish this spring/summer season:
  1. Put in a small veggie garden.
  2. Photography classes.
  3. Find some vintage cameras.
  4. Take lots of photos with them.
  5. Weekend road trips.
  6. Lots of family BBQ's and cookouts.
  7. Camping.
  8. A trip to Newfoundland to see Gros Morne National Park .
  9. Try some Geocaching.
  10. Treasure hunting.
How about you? What is on your "to do" list for this season?

Toronto Trip (Day 2 & 3)

Alarm went off at 6.00am and everyone was up getting ready for a big day of shopping at the Eaton Centre. The 1 km walk took about 15 minutes in the freezing cold temperatures... -17 degrees Celsius with the wind chill, BRRRR! All with our own agendas, we pick a time to meet up for lunch, then all 9 of us went off in our own directions. This mall is so large - much bigger than any shopping centre we have here in Halifax. I walked and shopped until my legs burned and our bags got too heavy to carry.

Around 7:00 pm, we headed back to the hotel to drop off our bags, freshened up a bit and headed out for dinner. We ate at a pub a few blocks away from our hotel called The Fox and Firkin. The food was great, the atmosphere was warm and the staff were all so friendly. It was just what we needed after a very long and busy day shopping.

Day 3 were were up at the ass crack of dawn again! After a hot buffet breakfast at the Golden Griddle, we took the subway to the YorkdaIe Mall for another shopping trip. We had had lunch at the Rainforest Cafe, got on the wrong train on our way back and ended up backtracking a bit but we made it back safe and sound around 5:00ish, just in time to walk down to the Eaton Centre for more shopping before the mall closed. Bed was a welcome sight that night, my feet were hurting and every muscle in my body hurt - who knew a couple days of shopping with do this much damage to the body? We were up early the next morning and off the the airport for 5:00AM for an early flight home. This time I didn't bother with the Ativan and managed to calm myself just by using EFT.

And this concludes my weekend in The Big Smoke... Read about
(Day 1)

Ps. This is my 200th post.... Yay!

Toronto Trip (Day 1)

It's been over a week since my last post. Unfortunately, life has been a bit crazy this past week. Between preparations for a mini-trip to Toronto and trying to deal with my anxieties over flying, blogging has been low on my list of priorities. There was one point last week where I was sure I was going to have to cancel the trip because of my fear of flying, but I managed to suck it up and headed off into the wild blue yonder. Now that I'm back home safe and sound, I thought I'd take a few moments to tell you all a bit about my adventures in Toronto with some of my family and friends.

This year for my sister in-law's 40th birthday, we all decided to go on a shopping trip to TO, and headed out on Wednesday morning for an extra long weekend. The flight up wasn't all bad - my doctor had prescribed Ativan which took the edge off the horrid anxiety attacks I was experiencing, so between that and a relaxation technique called Emotional Freedom Technique, the flight up was tolerable.

We were in the city by 10:30, so we checked in and headed to the CN Tower, located at Toronto's waterfront. Heights, another one of my phobias, was conquered when we road the glass elevators to the top - 113 stories - 342m. I did experience a bit of vertigo looking down, but the views were breathtakingly beautiful over looking the city and Lake Ontario. After the CN Tower we headed back to the hotel to get ready for the theater, we had tickets to see Dirty Dancing at the Royal Alexandra Theater. We had dinner pre-show at a nice restaurant called Alice Fazoolie's, great food but not recommended if you are in a hurry - the wait staff was slow taking our orders and the food took forever. Luckily, the theatre was only a block away and we managed to make it ten minutes before the show started.

"Nobody puts baby in a corner"- This show was AMAZING! Dirty Dancing is one of my very favorite movies ... I can watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it. Ashley Leggat, best known as Casey McDonald from the TV show Life with Derek, and Marcia from Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen, played Baby --She was fabulous along with all the other cast members. If your in Toronto in the near future, I recommend you get tickets to the show.

After the theatre, we had an enjoyable trip back to the hotel via cab with a friendly and funny driver. Overall, it was a fantastic day despite all the panic attacks and anxiety. And that concludes Day 1... stay tuned for Day 2 & 3.
