Taking a little break

I'm going to be very busy in the next few weeks so I have decided I will be taking a break from blogging.
Repairs around here have taken up my full attention - with painting, cleaning and packing, and a hundred other task that need to be completed before I move.
I will be checking in every now and again to read your blogs and see what you are all up to.

Friday Fill-Ins #134

Want to play along? Click on the image below.

And...here we go!

1. I wanted stainless appliances for the new house but got a great deal on white. It's not the end of the world. (white is ok, right?)

2. Sitting here, listening to the sound of rain falling, I think days like this are meant to be spent home, curled up on the sofa or in my bed. Sometimes I get hypnotized listening to the water swish from under the car wheels outside my window, as the gentile pitter-patter of rain lulls me to sleep.

3. Berries and cream tastes so good!

4. Sometimes, putting others first is not in one's own best interest.

5. The views of Niagara Falls from space is breathtaking, really.

6. Well, maybe there is something way out there in the outskirts of creation. What do you think?

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to filling, sanding and painting walls, tomorrow my plans include more of the same with a little break in the evening for hubby's birthday dinner with the family and Sunday, I want to get in a beach day provided the weather holds up!

Kokology - Reading You Like A Book

(book 2./Pg.52) Some are very fussy about their books, refusing to read anything outside of a particular genre or subject matter. Others read indiscriminately, devouring volume after volume without pattern or preference. Many read only on occasion or when work or study demands it. And then there are those who simply don't read at all if they can avoid it.

But for those who do read, not just out of necessity, but for the sheer pleasure and relaxation it affords, finding a good book is almost like making a new friend. There's a sense of simultaneous familiarity and discovery. It's as if a window has opened into a previously unimagined world, but one you sensed was waiting for you all along. Sometimes it's almost as if the book has chosen you.

1. A book lies open in front of you. What type of story does it contain?

2. You begin to read and soon find that you yourself are a character in the story. What kind of role do you play?

3. You read further and come to a section where the pages have been damaged, making them nearly impossible to read. What part of the story is it?

4. You have just closed the cover after finishing the book. How was the ending?

Ready to play?
You may leave a comment with your answers or keep them to yourself , it's up to you.

(This weeks Kokology quiz is dedicated to Pseudonymous High School Teacher who is returning back to work -teaching- next week)

Filler For Apothecary Jars

I just purchased a few Apothecary jars for the new house. They are inexpensive, simple accents that will spruce up any room, from the bedroom to the bathroom.

What to Put in Them:
Terrarium, wrapped candy, lemons, shells, soaps, natural sponges, old photos, antique keys/buttons/buckles, beach glass.

Do you have any Apothecary jars around your home? What's in them? What unique ideas would you suggest as a filler?

We Wanted The Best! - We Got The Best!

The Hottest Band In The World...
KISS!!!
Saturday, me, my two girls and hubby went to see KISS preform here in Halifax. I have never in my life experienced anything like it in all my years. From the moment we got there at 4:30pm, the rain came down soaking us to the skin but nobody cared, we were all so pumped that we weren't letting a little rain spoil our time. We were packed in like sardines in a can, there were a few times panic set in when I realized I could not see an escape rout through the crowd of +50,000, but I managed to hold it all together and stand my ground for 6 hours, being shoved and pulled and even trampled by a couple intoxicated individuals.

The rain let up just in time for that black and silver curtain to come down...
I saw my hubby's eyes light up like a kid in a candy shop when the announcer started -- "YOU WANTED THE BEST!" -- he was a boy again, amazed and dazzled by the lights and pyro display. And I have to tell you, it was the best thing to be there right by his side watching him and my daughters electrified with shear delight. KISS rocked like no other band I have seen live. Fantastic show!!

Click the link below to play along.

And...here we go!

1. Burgers and grilled veg. make a quick and easy dinner.

2. "The Quiet Mind" is the book I'm reading right now.

3. July brings back memories of my early teens - transistor radio, an ice cold bottle of Pepsi, suntanning with friends by the lake.

4. Once I cleared my mind and focused, the answer was obvious.

5. They say if you tell your dreams to the universe, your dreams will come true.

6. I knew the moment I walked into the house it was perfect; I needed very little time to think it over.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to doing some shopping for the new place, tomorrow my plans include going to see KISS here in Halifax! and Sunday, I want to relax!

Kokology - House Hunting

{Introduction to the game}
(Book 2 / pg. 169) You are house hunting in a new area that you are not familiar with because that's where your job took you.

You see a house, and on the outside it looks like your dream home. It is reasonably priced and the outside looks nice and the yard is pretty.

You enter the front door and it's the living room.

1.) How big is the room? Is it spacious? Is it small?
2.) What color are the walls?
3.) What is on the floor? Carpet? Wood?
4.) There is a mirror on the wall. What is it like? Big and ornate? Small and round? Modern and long? Antique with a crack?

You may leave a comment or you can keep your answer to yourself, it is up to you. Ready to play?

inhale, exhale repeat...

This week past was so overwhelming, I kept on forgetting that I need to breathe.
Caring for someone who is sick really took a lot out of me but today I am happy to report, my daughter is starting to feel like her old self again and is back at her apartment and back to work. Yipee!

{BREATHE}

I have some other good news to share...
Hubby and I just purchased a house!
We had been looking for a house on and off for a few years now, and when we were least expecting it, we found the perfect house in our price range, in the neighborhood we love. I wanted to blab this exciting news days ago but became so preoccupied with my poor sick girl, that I had put the news in the back of my mind 'till today.
- I'm going to be looking for lots of help with decorating ideas from you all over the next few weeks.
Will you help?
I'm soooo, soooo excited!!!

{BREATHE}

hmmmmm... that felt great; I should try that again...

{BREATHE}

Hubby and I have this week off, which will most likely be spent cleaning and preparing this house for showing perspective tenants. I'm sure I will be frazzled and stressing by the end of the week - usually this happens because I have horribly underestimated a task. I suppose I should be making a list to prioritize the things that need to be done to this place, but I am so distracted by the idea of my new place.

...wait for it...

A Sunny Saturday

Finally some sun here on the East Coast!
We took full advantage of it by taking a drive up the South Shore of Nova Scotia, stopping at various places here and there to enjoy the scenery and some tasty treats.

How did you spend your weekend?

So Far My Summer...

hasn't been going as planned

I'm really trying to keep my chin up here folks but the weight of everything going on here is falling on me bringing me way down.

These first few weeks of summer have not quite gone the way I planned. First my son got terribly ill with a virus, then we (hubby and myself) hit a big road block while trying to purchase a house, and the icing of the cake would have to be my oldest daughter becoming very ill with meningitis and finding out today that she needs her wisdom teeth removed asap. UGH!!!

Here in Halifax we are going on three weeks of cloud, fog, rain, thunder & lightning, with only a few hours of sun here and there. I think I'm suffering from a lack vitamin D that I usually get from enjoying outdoor activities in the sun, and this is just exasperating my state of mind - My family call it "Eeyore Syndrome" (hehe). I m really looking forward to putting the past four weeks behind me and getting on with my summer plans - be it a slightly edited version.

Hubby and I are waiting for some news early this week, so I hope I will have something good to share soon, instead of all this doom and gloom. Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Photos of the things have made me smile this past week

Pretty Peonies

My Peonies opened up this week but they are fading fast; seems they are not a fan of the damp and fog either. I cut a bunch this weekend and placed them all around the house, they look pretty and smell so nice.

Friday Fill-Ins, ER Visits & Lumbar Punctures

I'm so, so tired today! My oldest daughter had high fever and headache for the 6th day in a row so I took her to the ER. Doctors took some blood, did a CT Scan and a Lumbar Puncture (fascinating!) and determined she was suffering from Viral Meningitis and not Bacterial Meningitis - thank goodness!

Here is a video of a Lumbar Puncture (not my daughters) if your interested in the procedure.

Now lets get on with the Fill Ins :)
Click the link below to play along.

1. When I heard my daughter would need a lumbar puncture I felt bad for her.

2. Laughter really is the best medicine.

3. It's late, but the ER provides plenty of good entertainment in the wee hours of the morning.

4. The emergency room was slow last night, as always.

5. Doctor My eyes have seen the years. And the slow parade of fears without crying. Now I want to understand. ~ Jackson Browne

6. ER visits should be done on a full stomach and plenty of rest, I emphasize this strongly.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to sleep, tomorrow my plans include more sleep and Sunday, I want to wake up to the sun shining brightly in my window (keeping my fingers crossed)!

Wishing you a well and wonderful weekend my bloggie buddies :)

Kokology - Postmarked: The Future

{Introduction to the game}
(Book 2, pg. 20) Lounging around the house one Saturday afternoon, you are startled out of your reverie by the doorbell. When you open the door, you're greeted by a most unusual surprise--a pair of animal messengers has come to deliver news of your life in the future! But when you open their messages, you see they contain very different predictions of what lies in store for you. One of the animals has brought a letter foretelling a life of happiness and contentment; the other prophesies only disaster and despair.

Which of the animals below brought glad tidings and which an omen of doom? (Pick a different animal for each.)

1. Tiger.
2. Dog.
3. Sheep.
4. Parrot.
5. Tortoise.

You may leave a comment or you can keep your answer to yourself, it is up to you. Ready to play?
